Guidelines — AI work registrations

The archive provides Chinese and English research texts. Translations may be AI-assisted and may not yet have received independent human review. Consult the original-language sources alongside them.

SOCAN’s French guidance allows registration of AI-assisted music involving human creation without identifying the AI portions; wholly AI-generated outputs lacking human expression are ineligible. Distribution is suspended for suspected non-compliant works and may resume following investigation. The guidance distinguishes composition registration from recordings: an AI-simulated voice alone does not change registration eligibility for original lyrics and composition.

Material description

Read the complete French policy and FAQ attributed to SOCAN and dated 28 October 2025. The web tool returned 403; ordinary curl retrieval succeeded and HTMLParser was used to extract the text for reading. Legal interpretations and eligibility decisions are attributed to SOCAN, not treated as court findings. The registration interface, actual review cases, historical snapshots and same-day joint announcement text had not been obtained in this check. This is separate from SOCAN’s action against Suno: registration eligibility does not establish training permission.

Three North American music-rights organisations announce aligned registration policies for partly AI-generated works

The three organisations jointly announce that compositions combining AI-generated elements and human creation may be registered and included in their respective licensed repertoires, while fully AI-generated works are excluded. SOCAN’s same-day guidance separately addresses author responsibility, no requirement to identify AI portions, and procedures for suspending royalties on suspected non-compliant works.
